Andy made this video for Noah’s big sister, Eva.

It’s Official: My baby countdown blog transitioned from a 10-day countdown into a 12-day countdown into an actual real live baby blog! Noah Michael Cherkasky was born on September 23, 2013 at 4:08pm. He weighed 7 lb 1 0z and was 20.5 inches.
But first things first. Because it’s been quite the journey from my last post on September 22 to sitting here today with my 6-day old baby boy. I won’t bore (or horrify) you with the minute-by-minute details of my labor or our first days with the baby, but here are some things that I have learned in the past week: Continue reading
The only significant thing about baby’s non-arrival today is his astrological sign. No more Virgo baby. He’s now officially going to be a Libra (barring some sort of emergency in the next < 2 hours). This doesn’t mean too much to me because I’ve always felt particularly disconnected to my fellow Sagittarius peeps according to every horoscope I’ve ever read. But hey — maybe this baby was really meant to be a Libra. And who am I to question the universe? But seriously. Where is he???
On the labor watch front, there is not much to report. Andy and I decided after yesterday’s back/leg pain fiascos that it would be best if I walked/stood upright as little as possible today. This actually worked out brilliantly. I went from bed to the couch to the bathroom (x10). Then we went to the pool this afternoon for a couple of hours and floated around. This relieved the cramping/spasm issue 90%. I still had a few moments of sheer agony, but nothing like the past week.
On a happier note, baby’s wardrobe got a little bigger today- thanks, Mom!
I have another doctor’s appointment in the morning, so I’ll hopefully know more soon.
I know, I skipped the 1-day countdown update, so here it is: no baby! Here is a pic of Andy and me walking around Solvang yesterday, still hopeful (haha).
Although I have zero experience or authority on the subject, there are a few baby items that I am super excited to have for baby boy. The verdict is still (indefinitely) out on when I’ll have actual reviews on these products. In the meantime, at least I have cute stuff to look at!

Looks like I will be perpetually one day behind on these updates. Well, first things first — I probably don’t need to say this, but still no baby. The good news is that my back pain issue has significantly improved. After consulting my father-in-law (who is a doctor.. because that would be weird otherwise), my OB, my birth class instructor, and the entire world wide web, it seems the issue was the baby’s position on my spine/sciatic nerve, and my only option for reprieve was to somehow get him to move his baby ass to a different position. The REAL countdown is on. I hope.
Yesterday (September 18th) was the beginning of the 3-day countdown to my due date. Unfortunately, I wan’t able to post anything because I was in actual debilitating pain for the entire afternoon, evening, and night. Also unfortunately, as evidenced by this post, that debilitating pain did NOT result in actual labor or a baby. The good news is, I guess I was right — I wasn’t about to get away with feeling perfectly normal then suddenly go into moderately painful but predictable contractions then have a baby within a few hours. So, as I sit here and write this I am not in labor. Continue reading
A few weeks ago, we did a maternity photo shoot with the talented Barbara Alessandra at El Capitan State Beach. It was a lot of fun, and I figure we probably won’t be motivated to do this ever again, especially at 36 weeks pregnant! Here are a few of the shots.
Welcome to my (soon to be) awesome baby Cherkasky blog! This is my first venture into the world of blogging since my avid Melodramatic and MySpace days. Facebook has made me lazy, but I thought the impending arrival of our first baby was a good reason to get back into this.
That brings me back to one important point — the wait for this baby! 9/11 marked 10 days until my due date, so that’s where I began. For everyone wondering when this kid is going to get here already, follow along with my 10-day Countdown to Baby. And let’s all hope that I don’t have to edit my “10-day countdown” to a 20-day.
